DIY Fall Decor--Painted Pumpkins
Happy BLOGTOBER!!!
Each October I like to do a special series of blog posts dedicated to all things relating to the fall and Halloween season. Feel free to check out some Blogtober posts here, here and here.
For this first post I want to share the faux pumpkins I’ve been painting. They have been a blast to make and are the perfect decorative touch to our home. I definitely love decorating with touches of real pumpkins, but I love being able to recycle decorations annually. I also really love being able to customize the pumpkins to the exact style I am looking for.
I got a series of light, white plastic pumpkins at Hobby Lobby in a few different sizes and shapes, including these tiny ones. They are lightweight and well-suited for painting. I loved the different shapes and had ideas to paint them a few different looks with them.
The first look I went for was a chinoiserie-inspired theme. I love blue and white chinoiserie and saw a bunch of chinoiserie pumpkins at Home Goods that I really wanted. But why buy them when I can make them? All I did was get some dark blue acryllic paint and look online at some chinoiserie pattern examples to inspire the design. It is actually a pretty forgiving pattern to design and not too difficult to execute.
The next design theme I went for was inspired by Mackenzie-Childs black and white pumpkin designs, specifically the courtly check design. I LOVE how these patterns turned out. They really are a fun pop to our home and give a nice Halloween vibe without being too over-the-top.
I personally think these little pumpkins make a great, festive statement. They give some Halloween vibes without being too tacky and allow for some creative expression.
I even bought a few extra craft pumpkins for my step-girls and they really enjoyed painting their own designs on them! They went all out with colors and lots of glitter and love displaying them down on the basement mantle.
I highly recommend this craft for anyone who likes to paint here and there and has a soft spot for fall decor!
Stay tuned for more Blogtober posts to come!
