Thanksgiving Table Setting Ideas

Thanksgiving Table Setting Ideas

Greetings!

I thought it would be fun to a special Thanksgiving decor post. Specifically, I want to share some tips for pulling together a nice table spread that will cultivate a cozy and festive environment for connecting.

Let me preface this post with a disclaimer: I am NOT an interior designer…..by any stretch (though my mother is), so my table setting ideas are more for the average person who wants a festive table! These are just some fun, personal ideas for those who are looking for ways to spruce up their table in a festive and meaningful way.

1.) Gratitude Cards

This is a GREAT way to not only decorate the table, but to make the holiday feel more intimate and special. I love to paint and write notes for my family members and place them beside the plates, but simple notecards still do the trick! Cards are a great way to tangibly express the spirit of Thanksgiving. Everyone deserves to feel seen and appreciated on special occasions and little notes are a simple way to do that.

2.) Textured Elements

Color, pattern, texture, shine…right? I think I heard that somewhere before at least. Adding various textures to a table-scape really fills in the gaps and brings the space to life more. Wreaths, place-mats and chargers beneath the plates are a great way to elevate a table.

3.) Florals and Pumpkins

Thanksgiving bridges the gap between autumn and wintertime. It’s that last figurative burst of vegetation and life before the winter frosts over (for us north-easterners). For that reason, I love mixing pumpkins or gourds with greens or dried floral as a way to blend the two seasonal elements. Greens or fresh flowers also have the same effect!

4.) Candles, Candles, Candles

Don’t have a huge budget or energy reserve but still want a lovely table? Candles are your best friend! Candles give you the freedom to give the table both a formal vibe and cozy ambience. Candle sticks provide fantastic mood lighting and are a bit more formal and elegant.

5.) Personal Memorabilia

Something that makes for a great table addition is a sentimental item —maybe a piece of heirloom china or a dish that that has been traditionally used through generations. When my grandparents used to host Thanksgiving, they placed a small pewter bell shaped like a maid by my plate that I got to ring whenever dinner was ready.

Well, that’s all for now. I hope these ideas get your creative juices flowing and inspire your Thanksgiving decorating. I would love to hear if you have any suggestions or additions to this list!
